Ducati Revs Mid-America was my first encounter with Track Addix. I had enrolled in their “School of Speed” and was participating in the track day. I fancied myself as a good rider with over 40 years of street riding experience.

Bill Kaszer was our classroom instructor and Jason Jenkins was our track instructor. From the very start I knew Track Addixs were special. I had spoken to others who had attended other track day schools and heard about restrictions, no passing, passing allowed only on the inside or only on the outside. Track Addix has no such restrictions. They taught me how to safely and cleanly pass.

Follow my line

My 40 years of street riding would prove to be a great hindrance on the race track. My first few track sessions were terrible. I was fighting everything my 1098 wanted to do. I was not having any fun and I was getting physically worn out. I kept thinking, “I just can’t get this”. My on track instructor, Jason Jenkins (Jenks) never gave up on me. Every time we went out on the track he would encourage me to follow his line. You see with Track Addix you get one on one instruction from an actual winning racer, a very good racer. Just about as the class was coming to its conclusion I started to get it. I was able to let 40 years of caution go to the wind and was able to make a number of laps with out beating myself up. The light had gone on. I think I can get this.

Jenks continued to coach me throughout the afternoon. He was always very patient and found ways to communicate to me just how I should be riding on a race track. It would have been the easiest thing for Jenks to just give up on me. After all, I was having a hard time picking up this racer stuff. Jenks never did give up on me, for that I will always be grateful.

Jim, the Great Jenks and Chris Lang

For the next few months I worked on everything Jenks had taught me. I contacted Dean the President of Track Addix and ask about another session of the School of Speed with Jenks as our instructor. Dean was happy to set it up. A few weeks ago Desmodromiclub Kansas City was back again at Mid America Motorplex. Dean had made special arrangements to have Jenks there as our on Track instructor. The bonus was that “Poppa Dean” would be our classroom instructor.

After our first track session Jenks approached me and said “somebody’s been practicing” I had tried to apply everything he had taught me. Jenks gave us hours of personal on track instruction. At the end of the day I would be turning hot laps and getting very close to dragging a knee. Jenks had taken an old street rider and made a track day racer out of him.

These guys are AMAZING and very possibly the best Track School in the US. We plan to attend many more of their track days. To Dean, Jenks and the entire Track Addix staff, THANK YOU. Wildeman
